Biography

Born on the island of Unije, Croatia in 1952, Nevio Carcich emigrated with his family to Trieste, Italy in 1960, where he was exposed for the first time to images of Cezanne and Picasso.

It was here that his first art studies and inspiration began under the guidance of Prof. Folco Jacobi.

In 1966, Nevio was again uprooted, this time to the United States, where he continued and completed his studies, graduating with a BFA degree from the New York Institute of Technology  with Honors and a Gold Medal Award in Design. He furthered his art studies in drawing and anatomy at the Art Students League of New York, receiving an Honorable Mention.

Nevio revisits his native island of Unije regularly, where he finds inspiration in the tranquillity and simplicity of island life, the intense Adriatic sun, the aged facades, the weather-beaten windows and doors of stone village houses, textures, powerful colours, the ever-present sea and the surrounding nature for the motifs of his art work.

As an artist and designer, his expertise includes murals, restoration and furniture design, with a long lasting professional career in New York City before moving permanently to Austria.
